Counselor view: Competitive. Mid-ranked national university, but Mongolian applicants face higher language bars (IELTS 7.0 or TOPIK 5) and extra financial rules. General guidance only, not an admission prediction.
Pusan National University is a large national university in Busan, South Korea's second-largest city and a major port on the southeast coast. It teaches the humanities, business, social sciences, natural sciences, engineering, artificial intelligence and the arts, mostly in Korean. International students who study in English enter the Department of Global Studies; other departments require TOPIK. Tuition is low by international standards, about KRW 4.1–5.9 million a year, and new students receive a scholarship according to their TOPIK level. PNU ranks =449 in the QS World University Rankings 2027. The 2027 guide sets higher language standards for Mongolian applicants than for most other nationalities.
Advice from our counselors
PNU is affordable (about KRW 4.1 million a year for Global Studies) and Busan is a pleasant, lower-cost city, but the 2027 guide is strict for Mongolian applicants: IELTS 7.0 or TOEFL 85 for the English-taught Department of Global Studies, or TOPIK 5 for any Korean-taught department, which is higher than for most nationalities. Families must also show a bank balance of at least KRW 16 million under special rules for Mongolian nationals, so prepare the bank document early. Scholarships depend mostly on TOPIK level, so students with strong Korean benefit most. The Spring 2027 round has closed; watch for the Fall 2027 guide. Apostilled diplomas and the family census document take time to prepare.
