Counselor view: Strong match. Clear published criteria (3.0 GPA, Mongolian diploma 80/100, IELTS 6.0) and no SAT requirement. General guidance only, not an admission prediction.
Arizona State University is a large public research university based in Tempe, in the Phoenix metropolitan area of Arizona, with several campuses across the region. It is known for engineering, business, journalism and sustainability, and offers hundreds of undergraduate majors, all taught in English. International students apply directly or through the Common App, and the SAT is not required. ASU publishes a country guide that lists the Mongolian secondary certificate and the grade needed. The university ranks 172nd in the QS World University Rankings 2027 and has one of the largest international student communities in the United States.
Advice from our counselors
ASU is one of the clearest US options for Mongolian students: its country guide accepts the Mongolian secondary certificate with at least 80/100, no SAT is needed, and IELTS 6.0 is enough for most majors (6.5 for engineering and nursing, 7.0 for journalism). Students without a score can get conditional admission. Check the maths (algebra II level) and three lab-science requirements against the student's transcript. The main barrier is cost: about USD 70,000 a year including housing, and NAMU awards are partial with unpublished amounts, so families must prove full funding for the I-20. The Fall 2027 priority deadline is not yet posted; the Fall 2026 one was 15 January, so plan to apply by early January 2027.
